Blouse fragement


Collar and front panel (14”x11”) in heavy nalt colored linen/cotton decorated around collar (outside) and front bib by black embroidery, geometric patterns. Highlighted with red. Card and label notes wool embroidery but may be other. Card notes - A Serbian embroidery that was the blouse front for a male or female peasant; a complete serbian costume with this embroidery design is labeled in the V&A in London. Size: 12" x 14" with four repeats fiber: cotton or flax, wool yarn: spun, single with an uneven diameter fabric: plain weave with contemporary name of osnaburg application of color: fiber dye and yarn dyes design: applied decorations including embroidery stitches (some solid), step stitch, surface stitches ( cross, single, stem, outline), edging stitch (knotted and thick thread possibly from antwerp and armenia) this fabric has a geometric motif and was probably made by a peasant; the piece was the front of a blouse for a male or female peasant; mounted; very good condition: no holes, colors still intense.
