Cotton square (10.5”x17”) with two large heavily embroidered floral basket motifs in metallic, red, gray & black threads. Variety of stitches incl back stitch, cross stitch and chain stitch. Cotton fabric shows seams along 3 sides. Card notes similar piece labeled Macedonia, 19th c in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts the metallic yarn was rare which meant it was probably used for decorative or ceremonial reasons. Each of 2 motifs measures 5.5" x 10"; mounted; very good condition: embroidery is excellent, but colors have bled onto white backing.
