24”x16” natl linen with four very colourful embroidered panels. Bought on the island of Rhodes but is not the traditional embroidery style which has been made of this island over the centuries. Peasants of the so-called Greek Islands, of which Rhodes is one, raised silk worms and produced silk fiber for market. The unsalable fiber from the ends of the cocoon they made into silk yarns for their own embroidery work, which was usually done upon linen
