Hemp (plain weave) palcemat embroidered with heavy black,brown cotton; Part of a luncheon set; the embrodiery is called punto perugino (the name comes from a painter of perugia); it is a traditional embroidery done here, always in black or brown;"arte palsana umbria: stuffs woven by hand by the peasants of umbria; the designs are those that from ancient times have been handed down from generation to generation; the same designs can be seen in the pictures of giotto, simone martini, beato angelico, pinturicchio" --quoted from the scuola folder; purchased for 18รต mounted; excellent condition; 11.5" x 17.5"
