Rectangular (22”x3”) natl. linen strip with 2.25” cross stitched & backstitch embroidered hem (red, blue, green & brown/black silk floss. Latter badly deteriorated in many areas). Pattern design of peacocks and cypress trees reflected strong oriental influence. Decorative course open work joins the two pieces that make up the strip (pink & blue), Red 1” tassel. Card notes silk was produced by people from the eastern end of the Mediterranean and that silk which was not saleable was used by the peasants
