Toile de Jouy, copper plate print on cotton/flax, entitled “Diane Chasseresse” Monochromatic (red) in the directoire style, Made at La Manufacture de Oberkampf a Jouy pre Versailles. Similar sample in the permanent collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This type of fabric was primarily used in home decor given the large repeate. Depicts the story of Diana, goddess of the hunt, virginity & the moon (Roman mythology). Numerous by geometric shapes. Designer of this Directoire style print was J.B.Hunt.
