Shawl fragment
Paisley shawl (printed) fragment with rolled hem. with Size: 62" x 46"with 5 repeats fiber: wool yarn: spun, single fabric type: plain weave design: applied through printing and overprinting of colors of red, green, and blue printed on grey ground; this fabric was an imitation of the brocaded cashmere shawl of india; this shawl was the only wrap worn by women at that time; this particular shawl was the only wrap and was later remade into a cape; the design motif consisted of stylized leaves, and flowers and a curvilinear border. Fair condition: several worn places; mounted.
