Dress

White dress, empire style, with satin skirt and brocaded waist. Waist has creamy cording sewed on front of waist to make puffs or fullness. Puffed sleeve. Drawstring neck which is square. Straight skirt pleated into band of unbleached muslin. Drawstring at waist. Skirt appears to have been put onto waist later, not original one. Fair condition: quite stained all over, one underarm has been patched, other one is badly disintegrated.

When the Wadsworth Atheneum has garments that have verified dates, but are not perfect or they can not verify the provenance, they sometimes hand them on to UCONN. This is a study collection and does’t require absolutely perfect gowns.
