Shawl fragment


Two strips from a paisley shawl, each one v-shape and about 36 1/2" long size: less than 730"sq. And 5 border repeats fiber: wool yarn: spun, single fabric type: figured weave, complex with the basic weave being twill, and the contemporary name of paisley; made on jacquard loom. Color: applied through fiber and yarn dyes. Design: structural due to yarn type and arrangment, weaves and variations. This fabric was a piece of a paisley shawl, the only wrap worn by women at that time; the paisley shawl was an imitation of the cashmere shawls of india; the motif was made of stylized leaves, flowers and border; excellent condition: structurally sound, colors vibrant.
