Dress


Black satin dress with beads. Two-piece dress. Bodice has high standing collar; long fitted sleeve with gathers at top of sleeve, passamentere in black down each side of fronts and on cuff; pleats down front; crocheted pocket at waistline; peplum pleated at back and split. Gored skirt with bustle, pleated fullness at back, slightly longer at back. Pleated section at front of skirt hem at 2" intervals. No boning. Very good condition.

Mrs. W.H. Skinner made several ensembles for the Niederwerfer family in Vernon, CT. It was common to have a dressmaker come to live with a family for a period of time while making dresses. Mrs. Skinner later made a business for herself in Hartford, CT.
