Dress


Light brown woolen bengaline bustle dress. Two piece with fitted bodice and peplum; has plain neckline, dropped shoulders, coat sleeves with ruffle at wrist; center front opening has 10 crocheted buttons to close; skirt is mostly missing except for overskirt of same fabric; underskirt is missing. Reproduction in photograph.

This dress is believed to have been wedding dress of donor's great grandmother. During the 1870s there was a revival of the paniers worn by the women at the end of the 18th century 100 years prior to this time.
