Wedding dress

White satin wedding dress. Very long train trimmed with lace and ruffles. Front of skirt has several layers of chenille fringe. Bodice fitted, high collar, front buttons. Excellent condition.

Chenille is the word for caterpillar in French and the yarn was named due to it’s fuzzy look. It was developed at the end of the 18th century by putting short pieces of yarn twisted between two longer pieces. It became populari in Scotland after the 1830s used for shawls due to its warm and soft quality.
