Dress (child's)

Handmade fine cotton pique child's dress with fashionable leg o’mutton sleeves. Eyelet hand-embroidered vertical panels on dress and down the sleeves. The same embroidered panels are used around the cuffs. Hemstitching joins the same hand-embroidered eyelet fabric folded to create a 1.5 inch neckband. The collar and hem are in the process of being reworked. The sash is an antique ribbon from the Historical Collection.

The Fox/Auerbach family were very frugal and often used hand-me-down clothes and reworked already existing clothes. Most likely the hem was being let down to fit a growning girl.
