Bodice (woman's)
Typical bodice of the period, unfortunately without matching skirt. Of cranberry, ivory and brown brocade. Long attached peplum. Fabric covered buttons. In excellent condition save for perspiration stains.
Cheney Mills in Manchester were the first silk factory to use a Jacquard Loom in the United States. All of the fancy brocade was shipped to France. This was donated by Mrs. Fitch Cheney, so either she had it manufactured in France and re-imported or she was allowed to keep some of the pricey silk brocade for her own use.
