Floral and peacock design in red, magenta, blue and white on gold silk background; 13”x9.5”; large scale spaced design, embroidered in chain stitch; embroideries with this design are shown in books on textile history; the India museum, branch of the V&A, London exhibits several embroideries of this design; the peacock is a typical indian design; this was probably made for a woman's sari, as the embroidered design is perpendicular to the selvage Riefstahl: not the illustration from the new york times, jan. 25,1948, shows design repeated in a modern fabric; mounted; good condition: no holes, colors vibrant, few water stains.
