Wedding dress (2-piece)

Deep brown raisin colored silk taffeta wedding dress is in excellent condition; cuirass bodice features ruching trim at standing band collar, down center front, and at wrists; lined with brown cambric; inner waistline hooks at center front; no stays inside; skirt has straight front with much swagging at the rear; tassel fringe at hemline and back; slight train has 3 tiers of ruffles at back; center back hook and eye closing.

This gown is a very fashionable color and one that is achieved by mixing brilliant green and fucshia aniline dyes. The new synthetic coal tar dyes were very popular since they could create new and very vibrant colors. Ultimately these dyes were considered unsafe, and were no longer used.
