During WWII many weddings were rushed but as the war ended in 1945 there was a rush on weddings and many very elaborate weddings planned to welcome fiancés home from the front. The sweetheart neckline was developed by pin-up girls appealing to boys at the front and became adapted by their ladies back home as a sexy line. The broad shoulders embody the American ideal woman who was strong and healthy.
