Dress


Cranberry 2 pc dress of gauze with 1 inch horizontal shadow stripe embedded with small bouquets of pink/red roses. Ruched trim at yoke line coming to a V center front. Straight waist with gathering CF and piped at waistline & sleeve head. Small 1/4” stand on round neckline. Skirt is full with a 5 yard circumference at the hem, but unfinished at the top. Fullness is beginning to move to the back of the dress.

Edward Maeder (July 1999) says re-cut from an earlier dress of about 1855. Worn by Mrs. Green’s great-great aunt Jane Whitaker who lived in Hartford.
