Robe
At home robe of Bugundy wool with paisley print. Aesthetic dress. Back from waist is a double inverted box pleat. Button CF with irridescent green dyed buttons. Good condition, small tearing and loss of fabric at right pocket.
Unlike the “Mother Hubbard” this dress has elegance of line and exemplifies the “Aesthetic Dress” movement. Back from waist is a double inverted box pleat that insinuates a bustle but with no enough weight to create back problems and it is not tight enough to require a corset. These women were beginning to fight a war against the very unhealthy effects of wearing corsets. This gown could receive at home with a great deal of elegance and the beautiful fine wool is reminiscent of the extremely popular Paisley Shawls.
